It was a Barred Owl, the first I've ever seen! Barred Owls are about 21 inches long with a wing span approaching 4 feet. They are certainly impressive. This one was staking out my bird feeder just below. I noticed the squirrels disappeared fairly quickly (lest they become dinner). The chickadees didn't seem concerned though. I actually walked outside to take this picture. We're back to grey skies and flurries today but we did manage get that car dug out since I took this photo! (We have another vehicle that's much better in the snow than this small car, that we leave at the end of the lane when the snow starts to build up.)

Our road was finally plowed though so we did manage to get into Bracebridge to re-stock and get a Christmas tree (a job that was delayed by the storm). What a mess it was in there!
